Jurgen Klopp celebrates eight years as Liverpool manager today with his current contract set to expire in 2026
Jurgen Klopp celebrates his eighth anniversary as Liverpool manager today, having been named as Brendan Rodgers’ replacement on October 8, 2015.
Last season, the German inevitably lost the sparkle in his eyes as Liverpool floundered across the board. Week after week he was downbeat and frustrated when facing the media, disheartened by how his side had declined suddenly off the back of nearly winning an unprecedented quadruple just months earlier.
"I’m obviously not a miracle worker. That’s why it’s good how it is, because all the problems you have in a transition time period, we have an awful lot of injuries, and that makes life really complicated. “It's not now, it's not next year, but it might be in two or three years or whatever, and it really makes sense that the right people are doing that because we all know supporters are loyal - 'How can you do that?' - and there must be some people who make the right decisions.
“I don’t know where we go from here because it’s the start. But my ambitions are super,” he said at the start of last month. “I honestly, I stood in the dressing room, had a look, and I love this team. It’s a well set-up team. Let’s go, let’s go.” "We’re building Liverpool 2.0 here, we want to attack again and not just look at how much longer can we go on. I have a loyalty to Liverpool," he said when dismissing the possibility of departing Anfield anytime soon.
“And he says ‘No, I love it’ so I cannot see myself beyond 70 and still standing on the dugout each weather, and especially each weather for training, one and a half, two hours, standing there in the wind. I can’t see that.
