Health Minister Stephen Donnelly will tell his colleagues that a number of initiatives are underway to ensure that the backlog of children receive faster access to care.

There will be 20 children awaiting paediatric spinal surgeries for more than four months by the end of this year, Cabinet will be told this Tuesday morning.

There has been a significant increase in the number of outpatients being seen, with 335 patients scheduled across seven clinics since April 2024, in addition to the patients who are being seen at existing clinics. The Occupied Territories Bill, spearheaded by Independent Senator Frances Black, proposes to make it an offence for a person to import or sell goods or services originating in an occupied territory. This would include Israeli settlements in Palestine, including the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. Previous attorneys general had ruled that the Bill was in violation of European Trade law.

Elsewhere, Minister Catherine Martin will seek Government agreement for a proposal to host the Open and the Women’s Open at Portmarnock Golf Club in Dublin. Minister Martin's plan predicts almost 250,000 spectators for each Open championship and an economic injection of almost €340 million if multiple tournaments are held over several years.
