Just Stop Oil said the stunt began at 8.50am and claimed the seven arrested people included six who were blocking the gates and then a further person filming the action. The group added that another ten people were arrested on public transport. Activists have targeted airports in recent days in the campaign named 'Oil Kills'. Just Stop Oil said 21 groups across 12 countries have taken action at 18 airports so far.Di Bligh, 77, who was arrested for her involvement in today's Heathrow protest, has over 20 years' experience working in local government.
In 2022 she appeared at Horsham Magistrates' Court following an Insulate Britain protest on the M25 but was found not guilty of wilful obstruction of the highway. MailOnline also understands there was no need for passengers to walk over the activists - as some did during the Gatwick protest on Monday – because there were available entrances to the lanes elsewhere.
Also arrested today was Ruth Cook, 72, from Somerset, who said: 'We can't carry on as normal pretending that the climate emergency isn't happening. Just Stop Oil added that today's disruption followed separate action at Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany this morning. This saw five activists from the Last Generation group glue themselves to the ground, preventing cargo planes from taking off for three hours.
