Ireland's Justice Minister Helen McEntee declined to comment on reports that detectives are considering using child protection legislation to compel witnesses to speak about Kyran's disappearance. The Sunday Times reported that Gardaí are focusing on three key witnesses but lack evidence to interview them officially.

The Justice Minister Helen McEntee today said she would not be drawn on reports that detectives are considering using child protection legislation to compel witnesses to speak to them.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Ms McEntee said: "We work with Gardaí all the time to make sure they have the laws and the powers that they need to be able to assist in any type of crime and obviously that engagement is continuous, but individual cases I'm not going to get into. That specific case is obviously ongoing at the moment".

30th August 2024: Kyran and his mother are reported missing. The report claims they were last seen at about 11pm on the 28th of August, 2024. Kyran’s grandmother shares several appeals on social media saying: “This is my grandson Kyran. If anyone has any information about him or his whereabouts, can you please contact your local Garda station? He needs to be found as soon as possible.

"We can confirm that whilst Kyran was not in the care of Tusla, our services had engaged with both he and his family. In August 2024, we alerted An Garda Síochána in relation to a significant concern about Kyran.
