KATE Garraway has given a heartbreaking update on Derek Draper's recovery, confessing she misses being close to her husband.
has been caring for Derek since he returned home from hospital in April, but things are far from back to normal.She said: "I’ve had moments of great loneliness and fear. It’s hard because the person I wanted to give me a hug is the person that can’t – and that’s Derek." Derek spent more than a year in hospital after contracting Covid, later being placed into a medically-induced coma. Although he's now home, the 54-year-old has suffered long-term damage to his organs.
Kate, who shares children Darcy, 15, and 11-year-old Billy with Derek, appears in the first of six episodes of BBC2's Walking With... and discusses the challenges they're facing as a family as she walks from Painswick Beacon, Gloucestershire to Great Witcombe. The Good Morning Britain host confessed that, despite Derek being a faithful churchgoer, she hasn't been herself since he got sick, but said she thinks there's "something very powerful in prayer".Admitting that she still has a "crisis of worry about what Derek's future is", Kate revelled in the freedom of being outdoors and revealed that, unsurprisingly, she doesn't get a lot of time to herself.
