Kathleen and Gay were parents to daughters Suzy and Crona, and grandparents to Cian, Sadhbh, Kate, Saoirse and Harry, and the family was by Kathleen's side in her final days
Crona Byrne, the daughter of Kathleen Watkins and Gay Byrne, has shared her grief at the loss of her mother and opened up about her final "wonderful days" with the family.
The family were able to be with Kathleen until the end. Kathleen and Gay were parents to daughters Suzy and Crona, and grandparents to Cian, Sadhbh, Kate, Saoirse and Harry. Kathleen was known as Nana Kit to her grandchildren, and Crona noted that she was “an absolute lady, and a lady who reached out and touched so many people’s hearts…and so generous to everybody and so kind and warm."“She just was an incredible person and we are so lucky and honoured to have been part of her life and the same with Dad. To be able to call them Mum and Dad, what a privilege.
“Mum ruled the roost in the home, of course. Dad would joke, ‘I better speak to herself, the red head…no hair just a red head.’”
