'I'll never forget how it felt to see my premature baby girls snuggling up together in their cot at home for the first time after six long weeks in separate incubators'

The greatest love of Katie Hannon’s life is her 12-year-old twin daughters. On screen, the RTÉ presenter interviews the biggest names in news and current affairs, but at home things are much more relaxed with plenty of laughter and M&S Fruit Sherbets. What has been your greatest achievement in life?If you could revisit one day in your past, what would it be?

Any day when my parents and my brother were still alive. I’d give anything to get to talk to them again.Himself [husband Andrew Fitzpatrick] won’t mind me nominating our twin girls. What is your proudest moment? There is no situation so serious that it won’t be improved by a bit of gallows humour.

There are many journalists that I admire but I will single out the late great Mary Raftery. Her documentaries States Of Fear and Cardinal Secrets helped me understand the potential of journalism to shine a light in the darkest of places. I also put in a lot of shifts as a panellist on Vincent Browne’s radio show when I was a young reporter. The lesson I took away from all those hours of late-night radio was that you need a whiff of jeopardy and a bit of devilment to even the mix.
