Did you finish KeepBreathingNetflix and find yourself wondering if what happens at the end ACTUALLY happens? 🤔🤔🤔 Series creators Martin Gero & Brendan Gall have a clear answer for you 👀😮
The creators of Netflix’s Keep Breathing explain the show’s ending and reveal whether Liv survived. Consisting of six episodes, Keep Breathing made its debut on the streaming service in late July. The series follows Liv , a sharp New Yorker lawyer who had planned a trip to Canada in order to reunite with her estranged mother. Those plans are derailed, however, when her plane crashes in the wilderness and Liv is forced to survive by herself in an unfamiliar and dangerous environment.
The time alone does provide the character with the opportunity to think back on her troubles, including issues with her parents and a complicated relationship with her co-worker Danny . All of this plays into the hectic Keep Breathing ending, in which Liv is rescued by a pair of strangers. Although that seems fairly straightforward on its own, the conclusion is made murkier by flashes that show Liv with Danny at the hospital, giving birth to their child.
GALL: The ending is literal in that she survives. We see her wake up again and take that breath. The ambiguous part, the part up for interpretation, is whether the images of her and Danny going to the hospital are flash forwards or her imagined future when she believes she’s dying. Both are valid. So much of Keep Breathing places its focus on Liv’s mental state. Several figures come in and out of her thoughts, from the plane’s co-pilot to her parents and, especially, Jeff.
But, the co-creators are straightforward in their intention that Liv did not die at the end of Keep Breathing. For its faults, the series does tell a complete story in six episodes that mostly remain within the 30-minute mark. That’s an accomplishment in an era when many dramas go on too long. And, in doing so, it offers a platform for Scream breakout Barrera to lead a tense, taut survival thriller.
