It’s no secret that unhappiness over Keir Starmer’s positioning on Israel/Gaza spreads to the Shadow Cabinet table
As the Labour Party has grappled with Starmer’s refusal to call for a ceasefire in Gaza, many of the more prominent Shadow Cabinet faces have been absent from the television sofa. His comments in an interview at Labour conference which appeared to suggest Israel had a right to defend itself, including cutting off water and gas to Gaza
It means even if it doesn’t cost Starmer may votes in an election, it is raising questions internally over how Labour would operate in government. Starmer may have lost only one front bencher for now, but that’s while the Labour leader has not been disciplining those who speak out. There are tentative signs that Starmer is planning to hold a firmer line going forward. Some shadow ministers have been advised that signing an early day motion is not compatible with discipline.
