Keir Starmer will be in Manchester TODAY to lay out Labour's goals in major speech

Sir Keir Starmer will say he wants to 'reform the role of government' as he gives a speech in central Manchester today setting out the Labour party's 'missions' for 'building a better Britain'.

In a statement, the party said the goals will be 'unashamedly long term' and focus on a decade of national renewal in what he will call 'a long-term plan to unlock Britain’s pride and purpose'.Following on from his new year's speech, in which he criticised Rishi Sunak's Conservative government over a lack of long-term vision for the country, Starmer is expected to call for 'a relentless focus on the things that matter most'.

He will say that missions are not just another word for priorities or promises, they signal both what Labour would do differently, and crucially how it would do it, calling his plans 'a different way altogether'.
