Now's a good time to be smug, Ken! Ken Bruce has claimed that the BBC passed on the chance to copyright PopMaster before rejecting his pitch for a TV version of the quiz.

, PopMaster pits two contestants against each other to test their knowledge of pop music.

Down the years, the quiz has featured everything from celebrity guests to marriage proposals, and moved to Greatest Hits Radio upon Ken’s departure. Now, with the copyright for the quiz secured, he has taken PopMaster into the world of TV, with a brand new six-part series coming to More4. The idea for a TV version of PopMaster was previously taken by Ken to the BBC, only for bosses to reject the idea and pass on the chance to obtain the copyright.Speaking to i, the Scottish radio DJ said: ‘I asked somebody within the BBC if they wished to come in and protect [the PopMaster name].’

He continued: ‘They said, “Nah, you’re alright, I don’t think we want to get involved in doing that.” So I went to the trademark office and trademarked it.’
