Kerri Quinn and Annabel Scholey speak about their new thriller Dead & Buried, which also starsColin Morgan, Waj Ali, Owen Roe, Niamh Walsh, Micheal Hanna and Joanne Crawford
Kerri Quinn has told how she “knew that I was meant to play” her character in the new thriller Dead & Buried — and shared the scene she was “the most excited to shoot”.
Left re-traumatised by her past, Cathy begins a clandestine relationship with the man that she clearly despises — and embarks on a campaign of harassment and deceit. The Belfast native added that “the relationships are so honest — it’s just a really beautifully toned, honest piece”, as she shared what drew her to the role of Sally.
She said, “I was working with Laura, the director, at the time. She’d been offered the job and I remember we sat down and she said, ‘I’ve got this part that I really think you should play, but it’s Northern Irish’. I read it, and it’s just — it’s so far away from what I’ve played before. “Colin, I’ve almost worked with Colin about three times. We did a chemistry test a long time ago together, and he’s always been sort of — we’ve always been like, a maybe pairing and then it hasn’t happened.“It was really cool working with him. And everyone else — I know Niamh’s work, and Owen’s work…it was a brilliant cast.”
“It’s in Cathy’s kitchen, where she starts to discover Michael online, and it was a lot of fun. It was the first time that you see the setup of this friendship. She said, “I think you see that as much as she enjoys the playfulness of sending him a friend request or sending him a message, with the drinks, on the website — but I think what Laura had wanted was that element of ‘this could be dangerous’.
Colin opened up about the journey bringing Dead & Buried — which was originally a short story — to the screen. “The perspective shifts. In the first episode, you’re convinced that Michael is totally bad — but then you start to play with that a wee bit. “She’s just brilliant. We have natural chemistry, we’re the same age and we’re mums, we’re at the same time in our lives. I guess we just clicked. That Northern Irish sense of humour, it’s just brilliant.”
Kerri also opened up about her time on the cobbles, where she played Coronation Street ’s Vicky Jeffries from 2018 until 2019. “But they loved that about Vicky. As soon as I had that scene with him, I just kind of had a ball. But once I got that over, it was fine.Kerri told how she’s kept in touch with a few of them since she left the cobbles, including “Sam Robertson, Mikey North, Kate Ford, and Chris Gascoyne”.
