The result means the Rossies have one foot in Division Two for 2025 going into the final round of the regular campaign next weekend
Jack O’Connor was a contented man after his Kerry side gave themselves a chance of reaching the Allianz League final with yesterday’s six-point win over Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park.
Joe O’Connor’s 74th-minute goal put the seal on a comfortable success which sees the Munster champions sitting level with All-Ireland champions and boss O’Connor said: “I’m happy enough. We weren’t perfect — or anything close to it — but we were workmanlike and professional enough I thought. “Jason Foley appears to have picked up a pretty significant ankle injury there at the end. It’s a pity because he is an ever-present for us and has been playing very well. We’ll see during the week how the bodies are.”
Foley’s injury took some of the shine off the victory for Kerry though on the positive side for the 2022 All-Ireland champions, Gavin White was excellent in the defence, Barry Dan O’Sullivan and Joe O’Connor scored 1-3 from midfield, and Clifford was excused that penalty miss as he finished with six points, five from play.
Roscommon kicked the first two points of the second half, from Smith and Cregg, but Kerry hit back with points from Barry O’Sullivan, Dara Moynihan and two from David Clifford to open up a six-point lead.
