What an incredible man
It's hard to have not heard of Kevin Sinfield, given the fact he's constantly all over the news in his tireless efforts to help his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, who was been with motor neurone disease in 2019.
In 2022, Kevin completed ‘The Ultra 7 in 7’ challenge, running seven ultra-marathons, covering around 40 miles a day. Finishing at Old Trafford at half time in the Men’s Rugby League World Cup Final, Kevin raised more than £7m through his challenges, and was awarded an OBE by Duke of Cambridge and also received a standing ovation and special award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony in Salford.
He also played internationally for England and Great Britain. His usual position was loose forward, although he played both stand-off and hooker on occasion. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest kickers in rugby league history. Kevin's fans were left outraged last year as the sporting star was missed off the nominations for Sport's Personality of the Year - despite his huge charitable efforts. His fundraising effort means that more than £2m has now been raised for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity.
Sinfield also earned 26 England caps and captained his country while playing 14 times for Great Britain. He left Leeds at the end of the 2015 season, after winning the treble. He played for Yorkshire Carnegie - now Leeds Tykes - for a season before retiring. The half-back, who is a clear product of his father's leadership, signed the deal in the same week that his father left his position as director of rugby. Head coach Richard Agar told the club website at the time : "He's thoroughly professional and trains incredibly hard.
