Conor was born on the 12th May 1990, making him 33 years old. He was born in Castlecomer, Kilkenny and is five foot 11 inches tall.
Martin played for the Erin's Own club and was also involved in coaching, management and officiating.He was in charge of the Kilkenny under-21 team that won the 2003 and 2004 All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championships. He served as a selector under Brian Cody's management between 2005 and 2013, a time when Kilkenny won six All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championships.
He first played for Kilkenny as a member of the minor team during the 2008 Leinster Championship. He won a Leinster Championship medal on 6 July 2008 after lining out at centre-back in Kilkenny's 1-19 to 0-12 defeat of Wexford in the final. He was switched to left wing-back for the All-Ireland final against Galway on 7 September 2008. He ended the game with a winners' medal following the 3-06 to 0-13 victory.
