Kim Jong-un says he is 'certain' an outcome 'will be achieved this time'
US President Donald Trump touted North Korea's "awesome" future if his "friend" Kim Jong-un agrees to give up his nuclear arsenal. The pair met at the Metropole Hotel in Hanoi at the start of a second summit to build on the pair's historic first meeting in Singapore in June. Mr Trump declared their first summit in June to have been a success and hoped that this meeting will be equally or even more successful.
For all the drama, the Singapore summit ended with a vague statement promising to work "towards complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula". Since then, Washington and Pyongyang have disagreed even on what denuclearisation means. And while North Korea has now gone more than a year without conducting missile and nuclear tests, it has done nothing to roll back the arsenal already built. That leaves Mr Trump facing growing criticism that he is being played by the younger man.
