The Kremlin confirmed the visit of the North Korean leader for the first time on Monday

between the two autocratic leaders could take place as early as Tuesday, the newspaper reported.

The meeting was confirmed by Russia on Monday. “North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will pay an official visit to Russia in the coming days at the invitation of Russian head of state Vladimir Putin,” the Kremlin announced via state media. President Putin is due to speak this week at an economic forum in Russia’s Pacific port of Vladivostok, 6,500km east of Moscow, which is believed to be the most likely location for the meeting.

But Russian news agency Interfax reported that Mr Kim was expected imminently in the country’s far east. “We have been preparing for Kim Jong-un’s visit for a long time,” a local official told the agency.
