Golden anniversary festivities commence Tuesday at the museum’s landmark building, which Kahn, a renowned architect, designed.

All of which is worth noting now, with the Kimbell celebrating the 50th anniversary of its landmark building — designed by renowned architect Louis Kahn — and the museum’s opening in 1972. In honor of the golden anniversary and Kahn’s design, the Kimbell has acquired three of his pastel and charcoal drawings of the Temple of Apollo at Corinth. The museum notes they “are part of a small, remarkable group of pastels that the architect created while traveling in Italy, Egypt and Greece.

This is one of three works that will be unveiled at the Kimbell Art Museum in conjunction with its 50th anniversary celebration., will be installed in the new exhibition “The Kimbell at 50,” which will run through October 2023. The exhibition’s opening event will take place Tuesday and feature such speakers as Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker and curators from the Kimbell.
