Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has hailed the conviction of Kinahan cartel chiefs Liam Byrne and Thomas “Bomber” Kavanagh – and vowed to track down more of the mob's leaders.
His brother-in-law and senior Kinahan leader Liam Byrne, 44, is facing up to ten years in prison after admitting to conspiring to possess those weapons - after officers foiled the ruse when catching him and others in encrypted conversations via the Encrochat hack. And he said the Garda was cooperating with other law enforcement agencies to tackle other cartel leaders. That’s believed to include top target Daniel Kinahan, 47, holed up with his father Christy, 67, and brother Christopher, 43, in Dubai.
