The demolition of Kincora Boys Home should be completed tomorrow as the building is branded 'a blight on East Belfast'
The demolition of Kincora Boys Home should be completed tomorrow as the building is branded "a blight on East Belfast".
Plans were approved earlier this year for Hagan Homes to build nine new apartments on the site after the company purchased it in 2019. It has said that it understands that the demolition of the boys' home will be a significant event for those who were affected by the incidents that took place there and that while the physical reminder of the building will be gone, the spot will "forever be a blight on this neighbourhood and the setting of much distress."
Jim Burke, Director of Sales and Acquisitions, Hagan Homes said: “The company is mindful that one of the recommendations in the HIA Inquiry Report , states that one memorial should be created for all the victims of abuse. Given the range of institutions and the geographical spread of victims, Hagan Homes believes it is for the Northern Ireland Executive to choose a neutral location for a memorial in consultation with victims.
