Adrian Kempe had two goals for the Kings, but Johnny Gaudreau has two goals and an assist as first-place Calgary extends its lead in the Pacific Division with a 3-2 win.
LOS ANGELES — The Kings’ present and past collided at Crypto.com Arena on Monday night as the current Kings slipped against former Coach Darryl Sutter, three former Kings forwards and the Calgary Flames, 3-2.
The Kings now trail first-place Calgary by five points in the Pacific Division, and the Flames still have three games in hand on them. They are a single point ahead of the Edmonton Oilers, who steamrolled the Ducks, 6-1, on Sunday and will visit the Kings on Thursday. With just under seven minutes left in the second period, Calgary tied the score and then reclaimed the lead in a 65-second span. Gaudreau set up the first goal and finished the second scoring play.
Midway through the second stanza, Calgary winger Matthew Tkachuk tried the “Michigan” move or a lacrosse-style scoop shot, though he was rebuffed by Petersen. At the other end, forward Rasmus Kupari had a sterling chance trailing the rush but was denied by Markstrom, who absorbed the shot and left no rebound.
