Adrian Kempe breaks a tie on a power play midway through the third period and Phoenix Copley makes 28 saves as the Kings beat Central Division-leading Dallas, 3-2.
LOS ANGELES — The Kings have been accumulating jewels in their crowns in recent weeks, knocking off the team with the best record in the NHL, the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Pacific Division leader and, on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena, the Central Division-leading Dallas Stars, 3-2.
Defenseman Miro Heiskanen and winger Jason Robertson scored for Dallas, which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end. Jake Oettinger lost for the first time in five starts despite making 32 saves. Not only were the Kings perfect on the PK on Tuesday, but they also broke a third-period tie with a power-play goal. Attacking off the entry, Fiala moved a rolling puck with a touch pass across to Kempe for a goal from point-blank range.
Dallas knotted the game anew, exploiting a mismatch that pitted its top trio against the Kings’ fourth line. Center Roope Hintz and former San Jose Sharks forward Joe Pavelski got touches behind the net before Pavelski threaded a pass through the Kings’ top defensive pairing to Arcadia product Robertson for a no-doubt goal from the slot, his 26th of the season extending his points streak to eight games.
