The 18-year-old Man Utd academy graduate has sent Sir Jim Ratcliffe an explicit transfer message
Kobbie Mainoo still got the plaudits and managed to dominate the headlines, despite not participating in the final 40 minutes of Manchester United's epic win over Liverpool.
The fact his removal by Erik ten Hag, on the 80-minute mark against Liverpool, caused so much consternation among United fans at the time is a mark of his stature in this squad. The 18-year-old is the club's youngest senior player but often appears the most mature and the most composed. In the intervening period, Mainoo has largely operated in the more advanced No.8 role ahead of Casemiro, although there's now a significant debate to be had over which is his more effective position and the impact the answer has on United's upcoming transfer search.
Increasingly, when Casemiro has been in the side of late, United have struggled to dominate the ball. The Brazilian has, in recent weeks, shown a carelessness in his passing and an inability to cover the ground in front of the back four. He's now 32 and there's a good chance United could look to cash in on him in the summer.
Signing both a No.6 and a No.8 would be the perfect scenario for United, although financially it may not be feasible unless, perhaps, they get a good fee for Casemiro. It promises to be a busy summer for the Old Trafford transfer chiefs, with Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe taking control of football operations.
