To celebrate SmileMovie becoming available on digital and paramountplus, we chat with star KyleGallner about his character Joel's relationship with Sosie Bacon's Rose and whether he would return to the Smile universe for a sequel:
After passing $200 million in the box office and becoming the highest-grossing horror film of 2022, Smile is now available on digital platforms for those who didn't make it to theaters. The film stars Sosie Bacon as Rose Cotter, a psychiatric doctor who witnesses a patient's suicide. In the days following the incident, Rose begins to have strange and horrifying visions that she can't explain.
Screen Rant chats exclusively with actor Kyle Gallner about his character's relationship with Rose and whether he would return to the Smile universe for a sequel. And then, after talking to Parker, it kind of really sealed the deal. From script to screen, you just never know what it's gonna look like and, man, when I finally saw it and saw how he shot it and heard the sound design and everything put together and that just building sense of dread...I never thought the opening of a cat food container would make me shiver so much. You know what I mean? He did a really, really great job. Everybody did a really great job.
Another part of the movie that I really enjoyed, and you mentioned this a minute ago, is the relationship between your character and Rose. You're the only one who believes her. It's hard to watch someone go through all of this, knowing she's telling the truth, while everybody thinks she's crazy. How was building that dynamic?
I noticed that you've done other horror movies—is that the kind of genre you're drawn to as a viewer as well?
