A child with different coloured hair was brought to two Tusla meetings
It is understood the youngster is around the same age as him but has completely different coloured hair and wears glasses all the time. The youngster was brought to two meetings with Tusla social workers who were concerned about Kyran's whereabouts.
A report was subsequently made by a relative of Kyran that he was missing with his mother and then Gardai several weeks later launched a full scale murder inquiry. The man alleged to have let the "decoy" child be brought to the Tulsa meetings is now dead, but he had denied any knowledge or involvement in the "ruse".
A Garda source said; "The child that was used as a decoy looked nothing like Kyran. When we got a proper description of him we realised it was not him and raised the alarm. Gardai are continuing to follow a number of leads in relation to the missing youngster as they try to establish where he is buried. Officers are satisfied that Kyran was killed in June 2022 over two and a half years ago.
