Lakers, GM Rob Pelinka Agree To Contract Extension Through 2026 - RealGM Wiretap
The Los Angeles Lakers and general manager Rob Pelinka have reportedly agreed to a contract extension. The deal is expected to keep Pelinka running the Lakers front office through the 2025-26 season.
Pelinka has been the Lakers GM since 2017. For his first two seasons, with Los Angeles, Pelinka worked under Magic Johnson in the Lakers front office. He was part of the group that recruited LeBron James to LA in the summer of 2018. In his first full season as the team's primary decision-maker, Pelinka put together the Lakers roster that won 52 games and the 2020 NBA Finals in the bubble at Walt Disney World.
Pelinka's first major transaction was completing a trade for Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. He also completed a big trade for Russell Westbrook prior to the 2021-22 season. Since winning the championship in 2020, the Lakers have fallen off to 42 wins and a first-round exit in 2020-21 and 33 wins and missing the postseason in 2021-22.
