Nathan Brown, 19, attacked Elizabeth Coyle outside the Waverley bar in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, after an argument erupted. The impact caused blood to pour from her head while her cowardly attacker fled the scene in June last year.

A thug who scarred a woman for life after he glassed her outside a pub has been jailed for 21 months.

Sheriff Liam Murphy told the first offender there was no alternative to prison.

"A short time thereafter, they were approached by a male, now the accused, and a disagreement and argument began and the accused raised a pint glass which he was holding in his right hand and struck it on the head and face of the complainer. The court heard Coyle was taken to nearby University Hospital Wishaw where six of the lacerations were noted to be one inch long.
