'Part of the motivation for councils to reach an agreement soon is the desperate state of social care'

Lancashire could miss out on £1billion if councils do not back a current government devolution offer, a leading Lancaster Conservative has said.

"Will you stay round the table and pursue this opportunity? Even though the county and unitary councils would have the most, we districts would still have two representatives." "I have yet to hear anyone say this is a great deal or is exactly what we need. I keep hearing it is underwhelming. It does not give us great powers. Funding and investment levels would be underwhelming. Some of the funds touted do not out-strip what towns have spent revamping high streets."

"Regarding devolution, you say we should take the opportunity to work with others for the district. I agree. I have met leaders from all over Lancashire and upper-tier authorities. The city council is still in the Lancashire 2050 scheme, which is all about collaborating to get the best for the county.
