In her campaign to become Prime Minister, Liz Truss said in an interview: 'I support exploring fracking in parts of the United Kingdom where that can be done.'

"This makes no sense whatsoever. We are not aware of any new scientific consensus that fracking can be done safely - i.e, without triggering earth tremors. We know that a report from the British Geological Survey has been with the Government since June but, of course, we do not know what the report contains nor when it might be released.

"We simply cannot afford to continue with the old thinking about exploiting fossil fuels and should put all of our efforts and investment into the new industries. To do otherwise is to betray future generations. Just a reminder that, if fracking does make a return, communities everywhere will resist. There will never be any social licence.”
