We're debating if tipping is a thing of the past after a Lancs pub landlord says tipping is down 60% since the cost of living crisis - join the discussion in our comment section

Back before smartphones took over our lives the prospect of going for a night out used to involve a trip to the cashpoint at the beginning of the evening.

So is tipping in pubs a thing of the past? We'd love to hear your views in the comment section below. We also spoke to two landlords who had two very different views.Lee Forshaw, who owns the Withy Arms and the Walton Arms in Bamber Bridge, believes the reluctance to tip comes down to the cost of living crisis. During the pandemic, as many pubs were forced to introduce table service and app ordering, customers also became accustomed to cashless payments.

Lancaster Brewery owner Phil Simpson, whose portfolio includes The Sun in Lancaster, the Duke of Edinburgh in Barrow and The Mill in Ulverston, disagrees. "Tipping is no more less usual in a bar than it was 20 years ago," he told LancsLive.
