Those with low ratings are expected to make improvements
Five businesses across Lancashire have been awarded hygiene ratings of two stars or below over the last week - with one receiving zero stars.
The rating are given following inspections carried out by food safety officer from local authority's and the results are published so that people can more informed choices about where to buy and eat food. Each of the inspections were carried out earlier this year - with dates ranging from May to July - and published in the past week.
In Skelmersdale, Bella Donner was given the worst possible rating of zero stars which means urgent improvement is needed. Each inspection is split into three categories in addition to the overall rating - for Bella Donner, both 'cleanliness and condition of facilities and building' and 'management of food safety' were rated as major improvement necessary while 'hygienic food handling' was assessed as improvement necessary.
One star rating means major improvement is necessary while two means some improvement is necessary. The food safety officer will also tell the business how quickly these improvements must be made and this will depend on the type of issue that needs to be addressed. To get the top rating, businesses must do well in all three elements.
