Patrick Kielty kicked off tonight's Late Late Show with a lighthearted jab at the controversy sparked by last week's Eurosong special. The segment, which aired on Friday night, featured celebrity chef Donal Skehan , Dancing with the Stars judge Arthur Gourounlian, 2FM broadcaster Laura Fox, and Ireland's 2024 Eurovision representative, Bambie Thug, as panelists. Norwegian singer EMMY was chosen to represent Ireland in this year's Eurovision with her song 'Laika Party'.
However, contestant Samantha Mumba took to Instagram on Sunday night, expressing her disappointment with the panel's conduct. She alleged that the panel was 'unnecessarily rude and vile' towards all the finalists, criticizing their lack of 'credentials, experience or professionalism'. Mumba specifically called out the panel members, stating that 'Would have said this in person but they all left the green room before I had the opportunity to unsurprisingly.' Adding a parting shot, she wrote: 'My parting gift them is a bag of to slowly choke on.' Donal Skehan responded to Mumba's accusations, asserting his own experience in the music industry and deeming her behavior 'unprofessional'. He defended the panel, stating, 'To insult the credentials of myself and my fellow panelists, Laura Fox and Arthur Gourounlian is completely unprofessional. Each of us was chosen for our experience, insights, and passion for Eurovision. Everyone on that panel took their role seriously and approached the night with thoughtfulness, integrity, and respect for the artists.'Kielty couldn't resist poking fun at the fallout during tonight's opening monologue, as he discussed Valentine's Day and read aloud some joke cards. As he turned over one card, he remarked, 'Oh this is a bit weird. 'I just wanted to say you're vile, rude, disappointing and I hope you choke on a bag of...'' He then flipped the card to reveal a large aubergine emoji sticker, making a clear reference to Mumba's Instagram post. 'From Samantha Mumba to the panel of Eurosong!' he joked.
