An Irish emoji expert predicts the most popular emojis for 2025, stating that the laughing face emoji is becoming less popular among millennials and Gen-Z are using the skull emoji to express laughter instead.
An Irish emoji expert has predicted the most-used ones for 2025 and says the laughing face is “the millennial go-to” and is being swapped for the skull emoji by Gen-Z.

Keith, who is editor of emoji website Emojipedia, said: “It still surprises me, the amount of people my age that come up to me going ‘I didn’t know about the skull emoji being laughter’.“Every subsequent generation tries to distinguish itself from the previous one.”
