Laura Rummel won Saturday’s special election runoff for the Frisco City Council’s Place 5 seat, prevailing over fellow candidate Tracie Reveal Shipman.

The new council-elect accumulated 2,509 votes, or about 51.3% of the 4,893 total votes. Just under 4% of the city’s registered voters participated in the election. Rummel also ran for the Frisco City Council Place 5 seat in 2020, but lost to former councilman Dan Stricklin during a runoff election. In late November, Stricklin announced his decision to resign and pursue the Precinct 2 seat on the Denton County Commissioners Court.

During her campaign, Rummel said she wanted to ensure that infrastructure can handle expected growth, collaborate with landowners and developers to lowerthe number of high-density apartments and focus on attracting new businesses to Frisco. Rummel has lived in Frisco for 18 years and works in a business development positionat PayPal. She is a volunteer with Paws in the City, a local animal-rescue organization, and recently co-founded her own organization, Frisco Pet Partners. She also volunteers for the Network of Executive Women, the National Association of MBAs and the Frisco Women’s League and serves on Frisco’s Social Services and Housing Board.
