Dubliner Johnston was shot dead by Maltese police after killing Nicolette Ghirix in the early hours of Monday morning

The woman killed by crazed Irish man Edward Johnston could still be alive today if police had done their job, her lawyer has said.

He had used multiple social media profiles to harass Ms Ghirxi after they had ended a two year relationship last December.

“The crimes that were allegedly committed by Johnston are punishable by jail. Had they issued an arrest warrant, she could have still been alive,” he said. “How could the police tell her there was nothing they could do?” he asked. Had they issued an international arrest warrant, he would have been arrested abroad and brought to Malta to face justice, he added.
