A joint fatal accident inquiry into the deaths, expected to last up to six weeks, is to start hearing evidence at Falkirk Sheriff Court in the New Year. On October 2, 2018, he was detained after walking into Saracen police station, Glasgow, with a knife. Mark Stewart KC and Frances McMenamin KC, counsel for William's family, asked Sheriff Simon Collins KC, who is to preside over the FAI, to broaden its scope to look into this.
"It seems to me that that is fundamental as to how it came to be that he was in this situation where he was locked up at that age in that place."
