Shelbourne goalkeeper Lorcan Healy started a company called Eos Elite from his bedroom just over two years ago.

Shelbourne goalkeeper Lorcan Healy can add the title of champion fundraiser to his League of Ireland Premier Division winners’ medal - after raising over €8,000 for Breast Cancer Ireland. The 24-year-old founded a company called Eos Elite from his bedroom just over two years ago, producing grip socks - worn by top footballers, GAA stars and rugby players - running vests, anti-blister socks and compression calf sleeves.

Already he has more than 10,000 customers, including some high-profile stars such as Brentford and Ireland defender Nathan Collins, Kilmacud Crokes and Dublin Gaelic footballer Paul Mannion, and Ireland rugby star Jamison Gibson Park.READ MORE: Liverpool boss Arne Slot hails ‘outstanding’ Caoimhin Kelleher but has bad news for Ireland star But it’s through the sales of a limited edition running vest that he, along with Eos Elite’s Marketing and Events Manager Simon Feeney, has been able to raise money for charity. Yesterday, Healy and Feeney presented Breast Cancer Ireland CEO Aisling Hurley with a cheque for €8,322. He said the idea came during a drive home on one of the lowest days for his business - when an effort to open a pop-up shop in Belfast ended up costing them money. “We were really downcast after a tough day,” said the former UCD goalkeeper, “and we just got talking about ways that we could help charities. “That’s where the idea started. We wrote an email to Aisling putting our idea to her and we went from there. “It was an awful event for us, there was no foot-fall at all and it ended up costing us money, but something really good came from it. “I remember we drafted the email together in the car on the way back down the M1, myself and Simon, and we sent it there and then. That was the start of it.” Their proposal was to develop a pink running vest, with both the Eos Elite and Breast Cancer Ireland logos, and to donate 20 percent of each sale to the charity. “The way I was brought up, my mum always said that it was important to share your success, so we wanted to put something towards a great and very relevant cause,” he said. “This was our opportunity to do that. There was enough of a crossover in terms of what we do - making exercise more accessible - and the Very Pink Run events that took place in Dublin, Kilkenny and Cork this year. “We started our campaign in July and ordered a limited number of vests. The community that engaged with us was far beyond what we could have imagined. “We were present at all three Very Pink Run events and to sell out of all the running vests was well beyond our goal, and meant we could make a sizable donation to Breast Cancer Ireland.Players across the top four divisions in England and a host of League of Ireland stars have also become big fans of Healy’s products. The goalkeeper received support from PFA Ireland at the start of his business journey when the players’ union subsidised his place on a Sport to Start-Up programme, run by the Local Enterprise Office and Sport Ireland. He has been able to balance his work as a businessman with life as a professional footballer, where he has played back-up this year to Damien Duff’s regular number one Conor Kearns. Healy was on the bench at the Ryan McBride Brandywell earlier this month when Shels claimed their first Premier Division title in 18 years.Raised in England by Mayo parents, he added: “It can be difficult sometimes being a number two goalkeeper, but everyone has bought into the togetherness and will to win at Shelbourne.“I enjoyed every single minute of the year. To top it off as we did, it’s only really just sinking in now. “It was a year of really hard work behind the scenes. People only see us on a Friday night, but every other day we are putting in hard work together. “There is an overwhelming feeling of happiness right now and next year is going to be an exciting year.“We projected a tripling of growth this year, but we’ve experienced six-times growth - double our projection. So next year we want to significantly increase our business again.”
