The Monegasque retired from the lead of the race on three occasions, suffering engine failures in Spain and Azerbaijan before spinning out of the lead in France.
Spinning out in France was the most crucial part of the 24-year-old’s championship comeback. He came to France with momentum after winning in Austria and had claimed pole position for the race on Sunday. Ferrari also made strategy mistakes in Monaco, Britain and Hungary, costing Leclerc race victories and crucial points.
