'Once I finished the app my young grandkids and my older friends' were all playing it.
The 74-year-old grandad from Leeds decided to create an app to play an old word game he used to play at school. It was called 'Donkey' and the objective was to make a word as long as possible by adding one letter at a time.
If you got to the end of the word you would lose, so the objective was to try to keep extending the word while making sure you are not knocked out next. He developed the game himself over a year and a half. Now, the game has been released and Graham has talked about how excited he is for others to give it a go. However, when he told his family he was going to begin making an app, many thought he was not "tech-savvy" enough.
Graham, who worked as a teacher for 40 years, said: "A lot of people, my own family included, think older people are hopeless with technology, so they weren’t expecting me to pull it off - but I reminded them I was one of the first people to own an Apple Mac in the 80s and that experience set me in good stead for today!
"I worked hard to prove people wrong and once I finished the app my young grandkids and my older friends were all playing it. My wife was behind me the whole way and in many ways became my coworker helping me build the game’s dictionary. It’s lovely to see the younger generation connecting with the same things I did when I was their age”.The game is called 'The Never Ending Game', or 'NE-Lite' and is available on the Google and Apple app stores now as well as on the web.
