Leeds United drew a line under their summer transfer business with a loan swap deal after 60 days critical days under Daniel Farke spent righting the wrongs of the past
Aggression was the watchword for 49ers Enterprises going into its first transfer window with full control at Leeds United. The investment vehicle went into the summer with what it considered a sizeable wage bill by Championship standards and a clear mandate for Elland Road’s top brass to compile a promotion-worthy squad.

Farke, the key decision-maker the board were waiting for, was appointed 60 days ago. Ownership then only officially changed hands 47 days ago.
A France under-21 international with 107 top-flight appearances and a Championship-winning stopper will keep each other honest between the sticks. The 2020 promotion-winning vice-captain and the Championship’s best right-back of 2021/22 will cover that corner of the field. Then, at the tip of the attack, there is the striker with more goals than anyone else in the second tier across the past two seasons as well as a one-cap England international. Left-back remains the one real question mark in the balance of this squad, but if Sam Byram can stay fit or Junior Firpo can emphasise the gap between the Championship and Barcelona’s books, they could be okay.
Permanent relegation release clauses were in place for many of those who left, but these were set at the value they were originally bought for, to protect United’s investment. Unsurprisingly, none of the incoming bids triggered those clauses. Selling Gnonto after his strike action would have set a dangerous precedent for any other wantaway names in the squad. Retaining the Italian could be immense in terms of securing promotion, while bids like £25m were knocked back for Georginio Rutter.
