Leeds United are preparing to say goodbye to Diego Llorente who will sign for Real Betis
Diego Llorente is set to sign for Real Betis on a four-year deal as the Leeds United man prepares to move back to Spain. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Leeds will receive a fee of just £.2.5m for the 30-year-old, who they paid £18m for four years ago.
That figure will surprise some given recent reports the deal had stalled of late due to Betis only willing to pay £3.8m for the defender. However, it appears the hold up in completing the transfer was Llorente's insistence on a longer term deal, which he has managed to secure with a four-year contract.
The Spanish international moved to Elland Road from Real Sociedad in an £18million deal in 2020. He featured 59 times for the club in the Premier League but was a part of last summer’s mass exodus at Elland Road following their relegation to the second tier of English football and with Leeds failing to win their place back at the top table, Llorente was never planning on coming back to Yorkshire.

While the transfer fee is not the cash injection Leeds may have hoped for, the club will make a significant saving on his wages as the Whites continue to reshape their squad.
