Sean Duignan won the Dublin Journalists Captain's Prize at Royal Dublin with a huge score

Legendary RTÉ news man Sean Duignan made headlines of his own on Monday with an incredible golfing achievement.

Duignan shot a superb score of 43 points on the iconic Bull Island course to win the coveted trophy, bridging a gap of 40 years since he last won it in 1984. This year’s captain Roddy Hyland was joined by 25 past captains and members at the awards ceremony and dinner where Duignan, known to all as Diggy, received a standing ovation.

He was also Government Press Secretary from 1992 to 1995, but then returned to RTÉ and presented ‘The Week in Politics’ from 1995 to 2003.“Forty years ago, I won the Society’s Captain’s Prize in Stackstown. I was off 18 handicap then. I won’t say what I’m off now! But in golf everyone has a chance on their day,” said a thrilled Duignan.
