Leia finally gets a purple lightsaber in newly-revealed StarWars: The Rise of Skywalker concept art.
Unused concept art from Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker offers an alternate look at the flashback training scene, with Leia wielding a different colored lightsaber. The J.J. Abrams-directed Rise of Skywalker was the final installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and marked the official end of the Skywalker saga, which began with George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Star Wars 9 marks the final appearance of Carrie Fisher as Leia. The character's role in the film was smaller due to Fisher's passing in 2016, but she's featured in several key scenes displaying her knowledge and control of the Force. One of these scenes included a flashback of her training with her brother Luke, which confirmed that Leia had undergone Jedi training in the past.
Perhaps if Fisher was present for the making of The Rise of Skywalker, her request for a purple lightsaber would have been granted. This would certainly keep with Leia's more rebellious spirit that is in stark contrast to Luke, who is more reserved and stoic. Giving Leia a purple lightsaber not only looks great, but ties her identity to the weapon, much in the same way that blue lightsabers are associated with Anakin Skywalker and Luke.
