Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the world championship boxing from the Utilita Arena in Sheffield. Leeds' very own Josh Warrington is bidding to become a three-time world featherweight champion when he takes on Nottingham's Leigh Wood for his WBA world title.
Wood regained his world title by beating former Warrington foe Mauricio Lara via unanimous decision in May, three months after he was brutally stopped by the hard hitting Mexican. The 32-year-old’s most recent win came against Kiko Martinez in March 2022 but promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested that a fight with IBF super-featherweight champion Joe Cordina could be next for whoever wins between Warrington and Wood. As a result, the bout is more than a title fight, it could provide an opportunity to become a two-weight world champion.
