Leo Varadkar makes u-turn on whether he thinks Donald Trump should visit Ireland

Leo Varadkar insisted Donald Trump is welcome in Ireland - despite previously saying he WOULDN’T invite him here.

“The last visit, the only visit I was involved in, the visit of President Obama, and tens of thousands of people turned up on College Green to hear what he had to say and cheer him.The Taoiseach made the comments while Health Minister and compared a potential visit of President Trump to the hugely successful one of Barack Obama in 2011.He said that he didn’t think President Trump would enjoy a similar reception.

His comments came just after Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. “It is important that we respect the office, even if people have particular views about the current incumbent.” “We’ve long-standing relations with America, close cultural ties, economic ties and we had a visit from Nancy Pelosi only a couple and she had a large delegation with her from the Irish-American caucus in Congress.

He was then asked by the Irish Mirror if Fianna Fáil elected members could protest against his visit individually if they wanted.
