Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has denied moving asylum seekers sleeping in tents outside the International Protection Office to avoid embarrassing Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day. Hundreds of refugees who had been sleeping rough on Mount Street in Dublin were moved to a site at Crooksling earlier today ahead of the national holiday. The men were brought to the new site on buses and were given tents to pitch there.
It follows a government decision to stop providing state accommodation to some international protection applicants in December. Speaking in Washington, Mr Varadkar said the migrants had been moved to the new site because it has better sanitation facilities.
