Readers support extending the child tax credit; are grateful Dallas will get more psychiatric beds for children; say many sides to blame for the railroad mess; and used to love their school book fairs.
The new 2021 U.S. Census Supplemental Poverty Measure report shows that the CTC reduced child poverty by 46%. In one year, the expanded CTC pushed the child poverty rate to the lowest level ever measured.After the election, some politicians in Congress will try to pass tax credits for large corporations. It would be outrageous for Congress to pass tax cuts for the wealthy without expanding the CTC for low-income families.
The question arises: Why are so many youngsters crashing and burning? Is it all some random chemical imbalance? Can we blame it all on technology/social media? Consider perhaps that our culture makes it difficult to give proper care to children. I recently saw a video of a child on a sidewalk, ranting at a police officer.
Whenever you’re inconvenienced by a strike, don’t yell at the workers, don’t yell at the government — yell at the companies. They’re the ones that would rather stop everything than acknowledge their workers are humans who should be treated as such.Our country may have been founded on Judeo-Christian principles, but our Founding Fathers created laws welcoming a diverse group of individuals to it. Freedom to live an honest, honorable life while contributing to society was a promise.
By opting children out of a book fair, the only thing their parents will receive is resentment. If they are worried that they will find pornography at the book fair, then why are they giving their tech-savvy children cellphones with inappropriate content that is only a swipe away.
