“West’s past stance on Ukraine is erratic — Biden is forging substantial unity so far this timeReading at least two major newspapers my entire adult life, I consider myself a fairly well-informed citizen. It’s difficult to govern when we aren’t so polarized, but it’s almost impossible now. Besides the threats from our adversaries, we are dealing with a deadly pandemic, global warming and far-right white nationalism with an attempted government overthrow. I encourage good citizens from all walks of life and a wide swath of views to come together to help this nation create a more perfect union.
The writer bemoans the fact that politics, both national and state, have become increasingly divided. He is critical of “socialist” government programs which benefit most people. I hope that this same writer will not be accepting Medicare. We also got the Roth IRA, the ability of seniors to keep working without losing their Social Security benefits and the first child tax credit . The contract helped Republicans retake the House, but its contents were not partisan. They merely reflected good government.In his discussion of former U.S. Rep. Newt Gingrich and his influence over Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and the GOP, Leubsdorf never mentions that both parties experience the same influence.
