The website for Irish women
Lewis Hamilton has been widely criticised this week following his ‘ungallant’ celebrations after winning the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai on Monday.
The win marked the driver’s second win from three, but he has come under fire for spraying champagne directly into the face of the hostess.Object, an organization which campaigns against sexism, has stated that Hamilton should apologise for his ‘selfish and inconsiderate’ actions while some Twitter users have branded him ‘an embarrassment’.
“Motor racing appears to unnecessarily portray women as sexualised objects and that probably makes it even harder for the women to stand up for themselves,” said Roz Hardie, chief executive of Object. However, fans of the talented driver have stated that spraying champagne directly on to those around him has become somewhat of a signature move for Hamilton over the years.
