Roger Nores, a close friend of the late singer, alleges Liam Payne had a drug overdose and was hospitalized in May. Nores claims Payne's father, Geoff Payne, had him sectioned following the incident. Nores further states that he helped Payne get sober and believed he was on the road to recovery until Payne's father encouraged him to return to the UK to film a Netflix show, which Nores believes contributed to his relapse.

Singer Liam Payne was hospitalized following an alleged overdose just months before his tragic death, according to a close friend. The former One Direction star died at the age of 31 in October after a fall from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Police discovered substances in his hotel room, along with damaged objects and furniture, as stated by the public prosecutor's office. Hours before his death, Liam's friend Roger Nores was with him at the hotel.

Five individuals have been charged in Argentina in connection with Liam's death: three with manslaughter and two with supplying cocaine. One of the charged is Nores, who faces a manslaughter accusation. Argentinian prosecutors allege that Nores 'abandoned' Liam and failed in his duty of care. Roger and Liam met in 2020 at a Vogue party in London, forging a close bond. Now, Roger is making claims about the months leading up to Liam's tragic death, stating that the singer suffered an overdose and was 'sectioned' in May. Liam's manager, Finan O'Connor, allegedly informed Roger that Liam had been rushed to the hospital and resuscitated after a drug overdose and was in critical condition in intensive care. Roger claims that Liam's father, Geoff Payne, had the singer sectioned following a serious drug overdose in May of the previous year. According to Roger, the initial attempt to have Liam sectioned was for 90 days, but it was reduced to 30 days. He further states that Liam managed to talk his way out after only three days. Following his release, Roger says he helped set Liam up with a team of medical professionals in an effort to support his struggle with addiction. 'He knew he needed help,' Roger said. 'He did four months sober. Liam then began to go to the gym every day. He was really looking after himself. And it wasn't easy. He required 24-hour attention. Anyone who's looked after an addict knows that it isn't straightforward. 'It was draining, but I wanted to do it – that's what friends are for. After four months, I truly believed he had turned a corner.' Roger asserts that things took a turn for the worse when Liam's father encouraged him to return to Manchester in August to appear in the upcoming Netflix show 'Building The Band.' Roger admits he was against the idea because Liam 'knew too many people in the UK; it would be too easy for him to relapse.' The friends reunited in Argentina on October 13, where Liam reportedly shared his plans for the future. Tragically, he died just three days later. Roger has filed a defamation lawsuit against Geoff Payne in the US last month, alleging that Liam's father made false sworn declarations to Argentine officials. He claims that these statements contained omissions and lacked personal knowledge. The disputed statements include allegations that Liam was under the care of Roger and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy 'due to his addictions,' according to the lawsuit. The court documents further claim that Roger's relationship with the late singer was misrepresented, stating that they had a 'dear mutual friendship' and he insisted he 'never had a legal duty of care' towards him. Roger told a publication, 'We were friends and that was all I wanted to be.' In response to the lawsuit on January 10, Liam's estate refused to retract the statements and accused Roger of attempting to interfere with a police investigation by pressuring him to change his evidence. They stated they would bring his actions to the attention of the Argentinian authorities. Reports also indicate Geoff made every effort to protect his son in the months preceding the fatal fall. According to Rolling Stone, Geoff attempted to intervene in the weeks following Liam's early departure from rehabilitation. It's alleged that Liam refused his father's wish to return to the treatment center. Liam's team reportedly 'balked' at the idea of him touring South America, believing he was 'in no shape to be on the road.' There are claims that Liam missed several crucial promotional opportunities for his single, including interviews, performances, and events. A month before his death, Universal Republic allegedly dropped him due to these factors and concerns about his health.
